Michael Belton

Michael Belton, born September 30, 1960, grew up in Richmond, Virginia with his two younger sisters, Kathryn and Caroline. He had one older brother named William and his parents’ names are Craig and Linda Belton. Michael grew up in a middle class family. His father is a former military General and his mother worked as a nurse at a local hospital. He went to a public school from K-3, and then at age 9 he transferred to a nearby Catholic School that he attended until he graduated at age 17.

After high school, Michael attended Yale Law School and graduated at the top of his class. In college, he met his wife, Tracy, and they got married the summer after they graduated. Tracy has a PhD in education and now works as a 5th grade teacher at a local elementary school .After graduating, Michael opened his own law firm and worked as a successful defense attorney for 9 years. Michael had always been interested in politics and decided to run for mayor of Atlanta, Georgia where they now lived.

Soon after Michael was elected mayor, his father came down with thyroid cancer, and he decided to move back to Richmond to help take care of him. Soon after, Tracy found out that she was pregnant with twin girls. 9 months later, the twin girls were born healthy and beautiful. Three months after the birth of their twins, Michael’s father died at age 69.

The death of his father struck the whole family, but six months later he decided to run for state senator. His strong standings on issues and amazing public speaking won over the people, and he has served as Virginia’s senator for 12 years now. 

Michael’s biggest issues are education, alternate energy sources, the environment, and the war in Iraq. If he is elected president, he will increase funding for public schools and increase the level of difficulty in the school curriculum. He knows how important a good education is in having a successful career and solving the energy crisis. He plans on gradually withdrawing the troops out of Iraq. Another thing Michael will do is increase our border security on the Mexican border. Michael is extremely against abortion and he will outlaw it except in the event of an extreme case. He will also outlaw the production of embryos for research purposes, but will not outlaw research on embryos that would otherwise be discarded. Michael will also create a national health insurance system that will cover all working adults, children, and senior citizens. He will also solve the housing crisis by setting up a national mortgage and loan system.

Michael’s vice president nomination is Oregon’s senator Laura Dixon, a 49 year old African American Woman who has been a senator for 15 years.
